I love maki so this place is good. I don't find much on the menu without meat, same for the sushi menu, but I'm just happy that there is something, and that I don't have to make special requests to hold the meat. I like the rolls and the tempura is decent. Neither stands out from any I've had anywhere else. This place is down right exotic for Sioux City. The waitresses are generally very nice and attentive. Sometimes, the sushi chef gets bogged down. One time we literally waited more than 1.5 hours for our sushi. This is not a typical experience, but can happen. Bring your credit card or come fresh from the ATM. Two people will easily top $50 before drinks and tips.

Slightly better than average suishi, but when you take in the dynamics and size of Sioux City it is a pleasant suprise. It will not be the best or the worst suishi you will ever taste. Service is excellent though, just the right mix of being attentive while allowing you time to enjoy your meal and conversate with guest. The decorum of the restaurant is something to be desired for but overall a enjoyable dining experience

I love sushi, and I'm always willing to try new sushi places. Since I'm new to the area, my husband and I went with some friends to this place because we had heard so many good things about it. Unfortunately, this was the first and most definitely the last time we will go. While our server was nice, and our appetizers came out fast, it took AN HOUR AND A HALF FOR OUR FOOD TO COME OUT!!! (Good thing we ordered those apps, right?) But the server was only bringing out ONE PLATE AT A TIME with about 10 min. in between each plate (mind you, there's four of us at the table.) THE PLACE WASN'T BUSY!!!! Our server gave no explanation or apology. The sushi itself was very bland, poorly assembled, and my friend's sushi had some questionable pieces that were black and hard in her sushi (it was a California roll). The overall experience was just HORRIBLE! My husband and I will never return. Do yourself a favor and DON'T BOTHER GOING THERE!!!

I have been eating sushi/sashimi for over 40 years,,,,, Fuji Bay (recommended by Hilton???!) ,,,, the Sushi was not what we expected! , too much rice, the crab was imitation crab you buy at Walmart for $1.95 a lbs!!!,,,,,, We were greatly disappointed! The food was mediocre and the service was basic, We believe ,,,,I made the mistake by ordering the bento box steak instead of sushi, the portions wre very small!!!! ,,,, & steak was fatty & flooded in BBQ sauce not real teriyaki sauce! ,,,.. But we did hear that the other items was also mediocre. Good luck if you do make over Fuji Bay!,,,NOT real sushi/sashimi place!!!

This is a pretty good hidden gem in Sioux City. I was lucky to find it on Yelp. The food was good and sushi was fresh. The portion sizes are also pretty generous. We sent some of our friends there the other day and they seemed to like it as well. Who knew Sioux City could do sushi...

After eating sushi at other restaurants in Sioux City, we were encouraged by others to try It here because it was supposed to be the best in town; it isn't! Sushi should be a work of art and not a blah, plain looking roll which is basically tasteless. To add to the pathetic excuse for sushi the service is just as bad. The bottom line is you should look elsewhere if you want delicious sushi in a comfortable atmosphere.

I absolutely adore Fuji Bay. I was not entirely sold on the whole idea of sushi until I came to Fuji Bay, and my absolute favorite is the eel roll. Every time I've been there, the service has been wonderful and attentive, making sure that we're taken care of with frequent refills on water! The location is a little on the smaller side, but I've almost always managed to get a good table. Even sitting at the bar near the front of the restaurant is fun because you can watch the sushi being made. Of course it's going to be a little more on the expensive side, but my boyfriend and I always consider going for sushi at Fuji Bay as a special treat! Whenever I'm craving sushi, it's always Fuji Bay.

My family and I are new to the area. While my husband and I are Japanese, having grown up in Japan and eaten sushi our entire lives, we are far from sushi snobs and some of the best sushi places I've eaten in have been here in the US! So I was willing to give this place a try. The exterior is nice, the interior is clean and decent, and the staff were attentive. Sushi service was slow but everything else was fine. My gripe with this place was not the fish, which I originally feared would be awful, but the RICE. The rice was NOT how it should be. It's as if they took over-cooked rice, did zero preparation for it to be sushi rice, and then served it as-is. AWEFUL. Because of the rice, our sushi was painful to eat and I felt completely robbed when I paid the bill. I will not recommend this place to anyone.

This place is horrible the service is beyond slow , and we waited 45 mins before my colleague got his food, after them taking so long I actually didn't want to eat. My co worker finally got his food after the long wait I just wanted to get the F out of here.

We love Fuji Bay, and feel lucky to have a good sushi place in Sioux City. Try their box meal at lunchtime - a nice variety including miso soup. Oh, and add the gyoza appetizer!

Fuji Bay is good sushi. There are few places I would rather eat. The staff are all good people and the food is delicious. We are lucky to have such good sushi in SC. Try the Dragon roll or Spider roll.

Very strange place. Was in town on business and sat at sushi bar. Only one sushi chef in the place (I think his name was Sam) and he was running the show. He is Vietnamese. Very sloppy in his preparation and presentation. Sushi selection was very pedestrian. Sushi taste was fair. Miso soup not bad. Edamame bland and overcooked. I try to be very fair with my reviews and always give a restaurant the benefit of the doubt. This experience was just a little too weird for me though. The sushi chef was wearing earbuds the entire time and seemed to have had a strange personality. He spoke to a couple of regulars very freely but would not look up or talk to anyone else. I tried thanking him several times for the sushi and was basically ignored. Had the quality of everything been good, this quirkiness obviously would have been overlooked. The only redeeming feature of this joint was that there were two very pretty girls who were waitresses and cashiers. They had very nice attitudes and made the evening at least semi-bearable! All in all, this was NOT a good experience.

I would not recommend eating there if you want good Japanese. The tempura is oily batter, not flakey, crisp batter. The rolls look like they were made by amateur.

The sushi here was decent but probably good being in Iowa. The server we had was very attentive and willing to separate checks for our part of five. I ordered a beef steak plate. The beef was done perfectly the way I wanted. It came with rice, cucumber salad, vegetable tempura, and california rolls all for $8.50. The beer here is amazingly cheap. $3.50 for a Sapporo.

Not terrible. Not the best I've ever had by any means. I would recommend that if you decide to come here definitely order water. The tea had a sort of greasy film on it and the soda was pretty bad as well. On the other hand our waitress was great. Quick service on our appetizer (the pork dumplings Were very good). The rolls came out fast as well they just weren't great.

I've enjoyed eating at Fuji Bay over the past year but always wondered how it compared to "real sushi" I might find on the coast. Well, this fall I found out. I had the chance to visit a number of sushi restaurants in California - from San Francisco to Santa Barbara. I was surprised to discover that Fuji Bay was just as good as every restaurant I tried! (Note that I didn't attend the high priced, fancy restaurants - just casual lunch sushi, similar to the style of Fuji Bay, and my taste comparisons focused on rolls, soup, and tea.) Specifically Fuji Bay does these things really well: - High fish quality - Good rice texture and taste - Good seaweed wrap texture - Excellent miso soup - best of all I tried I have a new found appreciation for Fuji Bay. Who would have thought you could find such a good seafood restaurant in Iowa!

I have been a fan of San's sushi since Fuji Bay opened in the original location in the Badgerow building. I used to have occasion to travel to Boston and New York frequently and went to a number of Japanese restaurants, but never found anything even close to the quality of the nigiri and the maki rolls at Fuji Bay. I know it seems counter-intuitive for the best to be in a small city in Iowa, but with the fish flown in, location isn't the barrier to quality you would think. The toro, hamachi and California rolls are to die for!

Decent Japanese cuisine is how I would characterize this restaurant. While not exactly stellar, the food is fairly good here considering the limited selection in Sioux City. The decor is somewhat worn and the menus can be a little confusing considering you get a regular menu and a ala carte sushi menu. The service is seems adequate for the size of the place (rather small). Worth trying at least once.

A couple of years ago I'd have given this place a big thumbs up. However, I went there a few nights ago and was not-so-pleasantly surprised. After an hour and a half wait, the sushi was, well, disgusting. And overpriced. I have had good experiences here in the past, so maybe this was a fluke, but I guess throwing down about $65 and getting total crap really annoyed me.

The sushi is good. Service was prompt. A little pricey. Not kid friendly.

I love Fuji Bay! I go almost every time I visit Sioux City. They have the best California Rolls I have ever had... The lunch bento box is super good and super cheap. Try this place it is much better than the alternative in Sioux City. If you do try this place, make sure you have time it is a "slow" food restaurant :)

A good sushi place. High quality food and a nice setting. They have teriyaki and tempura and other Japanese items along with a la carte sushi and combos. I wish they would offer more sushi selections and combo options, and they're a little pricey---but hey, it takes a lot of $$ to bring ocean fish to Iowa. Worth a visit.
